In this paper we study the characteristics of search queries submitted from mobile devices and report the query patterns derived from 20 million English queries by users in US, Canada, Europe, and Asia using various Yahoo! mobile oneSearch applications during a 2 months period in the second half of 2007. We examine the query distribution and the topical categories the queries belong to. We compare and contrast the search patterns between US and international queries, between search interfaces (XHTML vs. SMS), and between search options. We also have compared our results with previous studies wherever possible, and have confirmed some of the previous findings while finding interesting differences in the query distribution.
